What type of puppy am I?

I am a Smooth Blue Merle Collie.

Think of Lassie or Lad with a short coat.

Lassie and Lad were Rough Coated (long haired) Collies.

Smooths are the short haired variety.

Amazing breed! Have never seen them before. very cute.

    • The funny thing is the short coat is genetically dominant. Most breed for the long or rough coat. In the US, we can breed the 2 varieties of coats together. So in his litter there were 4 short and 2 long coated puppies. I think in the UK, they keep them separate, so you will not have mixed litter. The short or smooth coat is easier to maintain.

Amazing! To be honest, I haven’t seen a collie for years. May be because they have an Irish Collie here, a black and white one. Also I guess that it is not easy to take care of that coat. The short haired one looks so cute, and easier to take care of. If it is dominant, they should be common. Why haven’t I seen one ever? Could it bee that the breeders just put them down? It would be terrible.

      • I think people prefer the rough collies so they are breed more often. It’s what people come to expect after reading or seeing about Lassie and Lad. The smooths are not common here in the US. They are one of the best kept secrets. 🙂
