Canon and Limber, Fort Pocahontas, Charles City County, Virginia

This photo was taken in the East Bastion of Fort Pocahontas, a Civil War Earthen Fort.

The canon is on one of the original gun platforms.

It was at this fort, US Colored Troops won their first battle of the war.  Repelling three assaults from Confederate General Fitzhugh Lee’s dismounted Cavalry on May 24, 1864.
